"Noisy but nice Restaurant"

We visited Ashoka in Derby. What "a shocker" it was. The place is up a long flight of stairs and you get the sense of excitement as you ascend the staircase. However that illusion is soon shattered when you enter the restaurant doors. Oh, they have made a wonderful effort in restoring and using this old theatre/cinema and the decor is delightful, with many of the original castings around the room; but the noise! If you want a quiet romantic dinner for two find some other place, because this isn't for you. We were in a party of four and it was difficult to hold a decent conversation. Service was slow but the food was hot, and enjoyable.
Ambience = 1 out of 10. Food = 6 out of 10. Price 3 out of 10. We have had better, and better acoustic for less. A return visit is unlikely, but should it reoccur then a further review will appear.
