"Junk Mail"

Why is it that

I get a bundle of advertising leaflets delivered with my mail? I have a "No Junk Mail" sticker on the door but it makes no difference. I have approached the Postman today and asked why he keeps putting all this advertising mail through my door. The answer was that "I have to". This I find very hard to believe. Does anyone know if this is true?.
